Agent: Giannis Antetokounmpo secures 3-year, $186M extension

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo His agent, Alex Saratsis, has agreed to a three-year, $186 million contract extension, he told ESPN on Monday.

The deal — which includes a player option for the 2027-2028 season — commits Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, to the franchise through the guard’s tenure. Damian LillardHis contract expires and he can enter free agency in 2025.

The extension, which Antetokounmpo first announced on social media, is another commitment from the superstar to the franchise that drafted him out of Greece with the 15th overall pick in 2013 and nurtured his development into one of the most dominant forces in NBA history.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst traveled to Chicago on Sunday to meet with Saratsis and work through the details of an extension that could maximize Antetokounmpo’s earnings over the course of his career. Antetokounmpo’s deadline to sign the extension was Monday at 11:59 pm ET.

Because of the over-38 rule in the CBA, Antetokounmpo can re-sign a short-term deal with the Bucks in 2026 and another four-year extension in 2028.

Antetokounmpo is establishing himself as one of the best players in league history, with a resume that includes a 2021 NBA Championship and Finals MVP award and two-time league MVP. According to ESPN Stats and Data Research, he averaged a career-high 31.1 points a season ago and is one of three players in history with an MVP, a Finals MVP and a Defensive Player of the Year award. Only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon It also completed.

The Bucks host the Philadelphia 76ers in their season opener on Thursday.
