India at Asian Games: Full schedule of medal events and fixtures on Wednesday, October 4
Today is Neeraj Chopra’s day.
The 11th day of the Asian Games, October 4 was already bookmarked as Neeraj Chopra took to the field once again to defend his Asian Games gold from 2018. Still, there is a big absence as the bronze winner from 2018 and perhaps his main competitor nearer the time – Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem – reportedly withdrew on the eve of the javelin throw event with a knee injury.
Still, having won every gold out there, Neeraj is keen to do it again, aiming to breach the 90m mark that has eluded him all these years.
Even if Neeraj Chopra can headline, he may not win a medal as plenty of Indian athletes are in the frame to add to India’s tally, which currently stands at 69. Avinash Sable (men’s 5000m final) and the men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams are in the running for medals, with Harminlan Baines bidding to emulate her mother in the women’s 800m final.
Lovlina Borgohain will fight for gold in the women’s 75kg boxing event, while Parveen Huda will also compete in the women’s 57kg semi-final.
Ram Babu and Manju Rani kick off the day in the 35km race walk mixed team event at 4am IST, followed by Jyoti Vennam and Ojs Deotale vs Malaysia in the compound mixed team quarter-finals and the medal round if they advance (start 6) ) :30am ).
Look for equestrian and bridge teams to add to the medal tally, while India’s Greco-Roman wrestling team bids for medals.
