Asian Games Live Day 7: India start with silver; eye more medals

Indian athletes could win several medals on Saturday as the Hangzhou Asian Games enters its seventh day.

Final day of shooting with Indian shooters in action in 10m air pistol mixed and trap events. Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS will feature in the pistol event and will be in contention for medals.

Boxer and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohin can secure a medal on her campaign day if she wins her bout and qualifies for the semi-finals.

Another Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu will be eyeing a medal in women’s weightlifting 49kg. He continues to face strong competition from Chinese and North Korean lifters.

Apart from him, there are three other boxers – Nishant Dev, Preeti and Narendra who can secure medals if they reach the semi-finals.

There are two big India vs Pakistan matches. The Indian men’s squash team will face Pakistan in the gold medal match and the men’s hockey team will play against Pakistan in their group games.

In athletics, Jesswin Aldrin and Sreesankar begin their long jump qualification while Aishwarya Mishra and Muhammad Ajmal will be in the women’s and men’s 400m final races respectively.

India won seven medals including two golds on Friday. Palak Gulia won gold and Esha Singh won silver in the 10m air pistol event. India’s Aishwari Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusle and Akhil Sheoran won gold in the 50m 3 position team event and Aishwari bagged a silver medal in the individual event.

Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Maineni won silver in tennis doubles. Kiran Balian won bronze in the women’s shot put event with her second best throw.

Also on Saturday, India’s women’s squash team won the bronze medal. The Indian men’s badminton team also secured a medal after entering the semi-finals.
