Doral, Fla. — Anirban Lahiri shot a 7-under 65 and Bryson DeChambeau Trump delivered the theatrics on the Blue Monster’s back nine to lead the Crushers to a 2-shot victory over the Rangegoats at the LIV Golf Team Championship Sunday in Doral.
The final event of LIV Golf’s second season saw the scores of four players from each team count, and the Crushers were in control of most of the back nine and led by 4 shots as the final group reached the 18th hole.
The Rangegoats were still just 2 shots back until Goch dropped his tee shot on the 18th, making a bogey and putting the Crushers in a tough position. DeChambeau made his most remarkable birdie on the reaching 16th, which he hit long and putt to the second green. He hit a high wedge and putt in a concession area of about 18 feet.
Among the four teams playing for the title, Lahiri played bogey-free for the low round.
“I was really pumped up,” Lahiri said. “I’ve had a few Sundays where I let myself down. I wasn’t going to let the team down today.”
The defending champion never stood a chance with 4 aces Dustin Johnson A 75 and finish with just one player — Peter Wiehlin With a 69 – 70 breakdown. They finished last among the four teams. Torque came third.
The Crushers won $14 million from the $50 million purse. Of that salary, 60% goes to the team and the players split the rest — $1.4 million per player.
Eight other teams, losers in the quarterfinals and semifinals of match play, competed in two separate tiers to determine their final spots.
