Casemiro ruled out until at least Christmas – Ten Hag

Casemiro added to Manchester United’s injury crisis after manager Erik ten Hag said the Brazilian midfielder would be out until Christmas with a hamstring injury.

United were waiting to assess the full extent of the injury the 31-year-old sustained in the Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle at Old Trafford last Wednesday.

Speaking in Denmark ahead of United’s Champions League Group A clash against FC Copenhagen, Ten Haag said Casemiro will now join fellow long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez (broken metatarsal) in the treatment room.

“I expect something [injured players] are back but Casemiro and Martinez, they’re really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas,” Ten Haag said. “It’s been several weeks. [for Casemiro]”

Left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have both been sidelined since the opening week of the season and remain unavailable, while teenage midfielder Kobi Mainu missed the trip to Copenhagen through injury.

However, Ten Haag says Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford are both fit to face the Danish champions.

Maguire played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s win at Fulham despite twice going off for treatment for dizziness, while Rashford missed the game after failing a pre-match fitness test.

“We’ve done it all [concussion] Protocol during and after the game, so he [Maguire] Ready to play,” said the Dutch coach. “No indication [of concussion].

“He is [Maguire] The game was good, so no problem. He played a very good game. “Rashford missed a game, a little knock but he’s back, 100%.”
