Kerala Blasters FC sealed their second straight win of the Indian Super League (ISL 2022-23) season by defeating Jamshedpur FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday.
Home team captain, Adrian Luna was the star of the game with a 74th minute winner. It was the Uruguayan’s second goal of the season.
Kerala Blasters had the first chance to score when Jackson Singh pressed high, won the ball and played a short pass to Luna. The skipper dribbled close to goal and had a chance to shoot, but opted for an unorthodox approach: instead of shooting, he chipped the ball past Jamshedpur goalkeeper Rehenesh TP and the ball went over the post.
After almost a score it was Jamshedpur’s turn as Semilan Dungell’s header went inches wide. Nikhil Barea finds significant space down the right and curls a cross for Dungeel. The visitors had another chance early in the second half when substitute Emile Beni got the ball down the right and sent a probing delivery to Jeremy Manzoro.
He tried to half-volley the ball into the net with his first touch but could not guide it as it went off the crossbar. Fifteen minutes later, Chukvu controlled a free-kick on the move and attempted to pass the ball past Kerala goalkeeper Sachin Suresh, but to no avail.
Finally, Lunai played the decisive blow for a concerted attacking effort by Daisuke Sakai, Dimitrios Diamantakos and himself. Sakai plays a quick pass inside the box to Diamantakos, who flicks the ball back to Luna. The 31-year-old calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to seal the win.
Kerala Blasters will now travel to Mumbai on October 8, while Jamshedpur FC will host Hyderabad FC on October 5.
