Source – Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo out vs. Chargers

Henderson, Nev. — Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo Sophie will not play in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at the stadium because he is in the NFL’s concussion protocol and has not traveled with the team, a source told ESPN on Saturday night.

If Garoppolo is out, the Raiders will turn to either rookie Aidan O’ConnellA fourth-round draft pick who excelled in the preseason but has yet to be active for a regular-season game, or a 15th-year veteran Brian Hoyer, whose NFL hasn’t started since October 2, 2016, and has lost 12 straight starts.

“I think the preseason was worth it for me at that point, just to go out there and play and get it under my belt,” said O’Connell, who completed 69.4% of his throws (43-of-62) for 482 yards and a touchdown in three preseason games. Three touchdowns without an interception, told ESPN on Friday.

“But I think it’s pretty far gone at this point and it’s different teams and different schemes and different game plans for us. So, I’m glad it happened, but it’s time to move on, I think, and see what happens.”

Hoare said: “I’ve been a starter, I’ve been a backup. The mentality is always — get ready to play and then go out and execute when your name is called.”

Las Vegas All-Pro receiver Davante Adams During the week the Raiders will be prepared for the players under center.

“I mean, we’ve all been working together for so long now, so what it might look like from the outside isn’t really that big of a deal, as far as adjusting and getting used to being with somebody new,” Adams said. “But even in training camp, Jimmy would take a couple of reps and then Hoyer would come in and throw. I caught the ball from Aidan in training camp as well. So, it’s definitely less than what I caught. [No.] 10, but we’re building it right now.”

The Raiders signed a three-year, $72.75 million free agent contract this offseason to replace the nine-year starter. Derek CarrEven after coming to terms with Las Vegas, Garoppolo needed surgery on his left foot.
