Ten Hag: Rashford night out after derby loss ‘unacceptable’

Erik ten Haag has labeled Marcus Rashford’s decision to go to a nightclub after Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City as “unacceptable” and revealed the forward has apologised.

Rashford was spotted at Manchester’s Chinawhite club on Sunday night after the 3-0 derby defeat.

A source close to Rashford, 26, said on Tuesday that he “attended an intimate, pre-planned celebration in honor of his birthday in a private area on white china hosted by his friends.”

Ten Hague indicated the England international, who was named on the bench for Wednesday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle, had been disciplined and said he would be available for Saturday’s trip to Fulham.

“I am aware of that [the party] And I talked to him about it,” Ten Haag said at a news conference on Friday.

“It’s unacceptable. I told him, he apologized and that’s it. For us it’s an internal matter.”

Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions last season and signed a new £315k-a-week contract in the summer. But he has struggled for form so far this season, scoring just once in 14 appearances.

“He’s very motivated to put things right,” Ten Haag said.

“I know how hard he’s working. He’s totally with us. I see him every day in training, what he’s doing, I know. So he makes a mistake, but off the pitch, what he’s doing, how he lives, and I’m sure He’s doing everything right to help the team and perform and let us win.”

United will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle at Fulham. Ten Hague’s side are eighth in the Premier League table having lost five of their 10 games, but the Dutchman insists they will come through their poor run.

“I’m sure, sometimes you have hard times but when you stick together — and we stick together — you get through those hard times,” he said.
