Xavi imagined it La Real Deserved more for their performance and criticized his own team’s display, saying the players were let down in last week’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid.

“The first 25 minutes were unacceptable,” the Barca coach said in his post-match press conference. “It’s the opposite of last week, when we played well and deserved to win but lost. Today is really a day of self-criticism.

La Real A great side and they showed more intensity than us. We were not comfortable at all. We had a hangover El Clasico. We were more impressed with that result than I thought.”

Barca were grateful to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen early on La Real He flew from the trap at San Sebastian, forcing the Germans to save him.

Ander Barenetxia, Michael Warzabal and take the kubo They were all denied by Ter Stegen as the first half ended goalless.

” In the pause, I asked [the players] If they were tired and they told me they weren’t,” Xavi added. “So I told them they had to play with more intensity. It was as simple as that.

“In the second half, we were a bit better. A draw is never enough for us. We made the offensive changes and finished strong to win the game.

“We were physically better in the last 10 minutes. The team felt more comfortable and we created chances, Gavi came close and Ronald got the goal.

“Sometimes football can’t be explained. Last week, we deserved to win and didn’t; this week, we won when maybe we didn’t deserve it. That’s football.”

The win kept Barca within four points of surprise leaders Girona, who beat Osasuna 4-2 earlier on Saturday, and put them one behind Real Madrid, who play at Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad failed to capitalize on their chances and dropped to sixth in the table.

The fans can be proud of the way we played, but as coaches and players we are angry. La Real Boss Emanol Alguacil said in a press conference.

It’s not good for me if opposing coaches say we’re the better team when we’re losing.

“When we play like that we have to win games. When you’re on top, you have to close the game. We have to be self-critical because it’s happened in a lot of games now.”
